Meet Shannon
Curlyou began with Shannon’s deep love for curls and frustration with traditional salons that didn’t understand them.
For more than a decade, Shannon has immersed herself in the world of curls, learning from some of the most respected curl educators around the globe. She’s passionate about transforming the salon experience for people with textured hair — one thoughtful, empowering appointment at a time.

The Purelyou salon has been Cairns’ trusted home for curls - a salon built on patience, education, and genuine care. It’s where hundreds of clients have rediscovered their natural texture, often saying it’s the first time they’ve truly loved their hair.
Now, through Curlyou Education, we’re bringing that same knowledge and experience online - helping curlies everywhere (not just in Cairns) understand their texture, build confidence, and create a routine that truly works for them.

The Curly Course
CREATING YOUR OWN CURLY CARE METHOD TO SUIT YOU.
This online program is your guide to understanding and caring for your unique curls - without the rigid rules.
You'll learn why curls behave the way they do (dryness, frizz, fluff), and explore techniques that hydrate, enhance, and evolve with your lifestyle.
Instead of prescribing routines based on curl types, we help you build a custom care method that suits your hair, time, and environment.
And of course, if you ever find yourself holidaying in Cairns, we’d love to see you in the salon - we can talk through your curly journey in person (and probably have a good giggle about humidity while we’re at it).
Whether you’ve sat in our chairs or are just discovering us from afar, Curlyou Education extends our mission beyond the salon walls so every curly soul can feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
What to Expect at Your First Curly Appointment
From the moment you arrive, it’s all about slowing down and tuning in.
We start with a relaxed, in-depth consultation where we listen to your hair history, what’s worked (and what hasn’t), and how your curls behave day-to-day. Every curl pattern is unique, and we’re here to honour yours - not force it into a one-size-fits-all shape.
Your hair will be cut dry in its natural state, so we can see its true form, bounce, and flow. We follow with a luxurious cleanse and hydration treatment tailored to your curls, and finish with a styling lesson using techniques and products suited to your texture and lifestyle.
You’ll leave feeling seen, confident, and empowered to care for your curls at home.
Please arrive with your hair clean, dry, and worn in its natural curl pattern (no buns, braids, or hats).
Curly cuts last longer than traditional cuts — between 3 to 18 months depending on your preferred style and hydration routine.
